As a therapist, I feel strongly that adolescents, children and their parents, can overcome obstacles and increase life satisfaction. Many of the problems, both social and academic, that children, adolescents and young adults face today stem from difficulties managing negative emotions, namely anxiety and sadness. These difficulties shape behavior in a variety of ways; temper tantrums and moodiness, low tolerance for frustration/avoidance, hyperactivity, limited attention, poor social skills, low self-esteem, defiance of authority, lack of direction and motivation, substance use, and a decline in academics. , First I help kids and their parents to identify the situations where conflicts arise. Next we learn about the underlying emotions at the root of these problems.
