Couples may need an initial dose of empathy for the state of their relationship, followed by the hard work of stepping back and exploring patterns fueling the pain. , Some clients are eager for specific goals or books to read, whereas others seek a break from an overly goal-focused life, to be able to breathe and reflect on the meaning of their pain or depression.
