In working with adolescents and young adults, clients often find themselves isolated from their environment and feeling that others around them cannot understand their experiences. Clients may need support in navigating life transitions and mental health challenges encountered along the way. These can range from diagnosed mental health disorders, family disturbances, to struggles connecting with peers. , While the counseling process cannot remove stressors from every day life, we can work with clients in creating a personalized toolbox to help with day to day concerns and using healthy coping skills and learning about themselves so they can be better equipped to navigate these experiences while having a "buddy" to discuss successes or shortcomings. , It can be hard to ask for help and it takes a lot of courage to do so when we are in a vulnerable place.
