Intellectual understanding of a problem may not be enough to produce change. I try to listen deeply and help people integrate their strengths, values, and emotions in new ways. Many of my clients feel stuck or defeated in certain areas despite doing well in other domains of life. , My specialties and areas of interest are (a) relational psychotherapy (an approach that includes active collaboration and exploration what has been left out or under-developed) (b) spiritual/existential issues, (c) cultural competence/humility/social justice, (d) couples therapy, and (e) formative approaches for training psychotherapists. , I am also a training director and part of a clinical research team. In all of my roles, I focus on the therapeutic interaction: stories, images, emotions, preferences & commitments, moments of synchrony and moments of conflict.
