Guess what? There is nothing wrong with you! Many people come to therapy because they don’t like aspects of themselves. And that makes sense! It’s very normal that when we are hurting, we can feel like we are the problem. The thing is, most of our “problems” (i.e. the disconnection from our emotions and our bodies, the depression/anxiety, the addictions and compulsions, the relationship struggles) all originate as adaptations to difficult life experiences, to relational wounding and betrayals. They are not wrong; they came about as sources of protection. , Learning to relate to these patterns and parts of ourselves with curiosity, kindness, and acceptance can reconnect us to our essence of wholeness. As we inquire into the origins of these patterns, beliefs, and defenses, we gain the opportunity to question their validity and to transform them—the result: greater resilience, strength, and freedom in our lives. , We each have the inherent inner resources necessary for healing and wholeness. Having a companion on the path can make all the difference. When we are understood and unconditionally accepted by a caring witness, we can grow our own capacity to hold ourselves in a loving and compassionate way.
